According to Rod, Doug and Ian, the answer lies in the complete client-focus which drives every aspect of the firm's activities, and the fact that Aequis is a true fee-charging business.
'We don't take commissions for selling products - our focus is on providing the highest standard of advice to our clients', says Rod Scurrah. 'Our philosophy is to provide high quality financial advice addressing all of our clients' needs, working with them and maintaining a productive relationship through every stage of their lives'.
'The shared vision we have for Aequis is for the long term. This is a financial advice firm which will continue into the future with that vision', says Rod.
A new name entered the financial lexicon in Tasmania this week with the launch of Aequis - a distinctive new financial advice firm.
Aequis is a fresh financial advice business that has grown from the union of two successful Tasmanian advice firms.
Aequis has been created from the merger of two of Tasmania's most experienced and respected financial advice businesses - Davey & Scurrah and Ritchie & Associates.
For over two decades, Doug Davey, Rod Scurrah, Ian Ritchie and their teams have guided countless Tasmanians with sound, effective financial advice. The three men have shared a personal and professional compatibility throughout this time, but it wasn't until early last year that they began a series of conversations that has led them to create a new business that is unique in their industry.
So what did it take for two successful financial advice firms to become a brand new business?
'Many, many meetings', quips Rod Scurrah.
Ian Ritchie agrees.
'This has been a long and very diligent and considered process in which we have covered absolutely every factor associated with merging the two businesses'.
The exhaustive project included every team member from both businesses in addition to a number of external specialists.
'We engaged the whole team in this process, to ensure that everyone was committed to the merger and we brought in an extensive group of experts - from financial and business advisers to brand and marketing specialists'. says Rod.
The blending of Davey & Scurrah and Ritchie & Associates into Aequis has created an expanded business with increased resources - something the owners believe brings great benefits to Aequis clients.
'The merger adds scale to our business - and that means we're in a position to foster a deeper understanding and relationship with our clients, to be profitable, but to also offer a high standard of advice at a reasonable cost', says Doug Davey.
Both businesses have operated for over 20 years and bring more than 200 years of combined industry experience to Aequis.
